Kahani Chelsea: A Hidden Indian Gem Near Sloane Square

It’s no secret that London has some of the very best Indian restaurants in the world sometimes even better than the ones you’ll find in India itself. If you’ve been following us for a while, you’ll know that Indian food has always had a special place in my life. I’ve tried so many Indian restaurants in London over the years, and I even spent some time living in India so I always get excited when I find a place that really captures those flavours. And Kahani is definitely one to watch.

Tucked away just a short walk from Sloane Square in Chelsea, Kahani is the kind of restaurant that takes you completely by surprise. From the outside, it feels like a hidden spot, but as soon as you step in, you’re greeted by a grand, beautifully designed space. The interiors are beautiful stylish without being over the top and it’s the kind of place where you instantly feel looked after. Even the menu feels special, with dishes that are clearly put together with a lot of thought — refined but still inviting.

And then comes the food.

This is not just fine dining; it’s Indian fine dining at its very best. Dishes are bold yet refined, traditional yet inventive. Chef Peter Joseph, who hails from Chennai in South India, brings his roots to London with a style that celebrates India’s vast regional cuisines while blending them seamlessly with contemporary British influences. The result? Plates that feel comforting yet fresh, familiar yet surprising.

What we ate

Our evening started with the Mangalorean Scallops delicate, coastal flavours with a creamy coconut moilee, elevated with salmon roe and caviar. A dish that immediately set the tone for the night: refined, luxurious, but still full of heart.

Next came the Chicken Chop, inspired by Anglo-Indian street food, where spiced beetroot, nutmeg, and ginger came together with a zingy green sauce. It’s playful, colourful, and a perfect representation of Kahani’s creativity.

From the grill, we sampled a selection of tasters that showcased the smoky depth of Indian chargrilling, before moving into the curries. The Lamb Curry was rich, aromatic, and deeply satisfying the kind of dish that reminds you why Indian cuisine has such universal appeal. The Chicken Masala, meanwhile, offered a comforting balance of spice and creaminess, familiar yet distinctly refined in execution.

And then dessert stole the show. The Tropical Pudding vanilla custard with pumpkin & cranberry ice cream was a revelation. Sweet, tangy, and beautifully presented, it rounded off the meal with a sense of playful indulgence

Why Kahani stands out

What I love most about Kahani is how it manages to bridge two worlds. It’s fine dining, yes, with carefully plated dishes and a menu that reads like a love letter to India’s diverse flavours. But it’s also welcoming, warm, and surprisingly accessible. Prices are on the higher end, but considering the quality, creativity, and attention to detail, it feels entirely fair. Their set menus, which come with wine pairings, make the experience even more approachable and truly worth it.

Beyond the food, Kahani has created a full experience. Live jazz nights every Thursday bring a touch of magic, while their bottomless brunch (Thursday to Sunday) adds a playful twist to weekend dining. It’s a restaurant that doesn’t just serve food it creates memories.

Final thoughts

Kahani is a reminder of why London is the world capital of Indian dining. Rooted in tradition but reimagined with creativity, it’s a restaurant that delivers on every level: food, ambience, service, and atmosphere. Whether you’re a long-time lover of Indian cuisine or someone looking to experience it at its finest, Kahani deserves a spot at the very top of your list.

This was more than just dinner, it was a journey through flavours, stories, and craftsmanship. And for me, someone who has lived and breathed Indian food across continents, Kahani felt like home with just the right touch of West London glam.
